The Legend of The Golf Ball and the Mouse

The Golf Ball

One day, there was a woman who decided to mow her back yard. The grass had not been mowed for sometime and it was very thick.
The woman had a son who enjoyed playing in the back yard. He would take his new golf clubs and some golf balls and go into the back yard and hit them. The woman would be upset with the boy because he knew he wasn't supposed to take the REAL golf balls out. He had plastic ones he could play with.

As the woman mowed the grass, she was thinking about her baby. She was inside buckled into her stroller watching a movie in her bedroom. Usually she watched TV in the living room, but today was an exception. Suddenly, the fierce blades of the mower caught something in them. Around and round the object spun until it made a quick exit...right toward the woman's house.

The woman turned the lawn mower off and turned around to see what had hit the house. She thought it must have been a rock. She looked closely at the gravel and realized that there was glass in the gravel. She knew this was odd. Slowly, her gaze rose, and she realized that the object had flown through a window and into her home.

The woman raced inside and muttered a few choice words as she searched for the intruder. As she searched, the woman realized that glass had flown throughout her house. There was glass in the sun room (where the window was broken) and glass in the living room. That's right. The same living room where the woman's little baby usually sits to watch TV.

The woman cleaned up the glass and called the glass company. She then went about her business of mowing the grass.

The Mouse

The very next day after "The Golf Ball Incident," the very same woman was sitting in her bedroom with her children. They were watching home videos from the past summer.
Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, the woman noticed a little something scurrying around in her bedroom. The woman slowly lifted herself and began stalking the sly little creature. He had run into the water heater closet. She slowly opened the door to the water heater and there he was. The clever little fellow.

The woman went and told her husband and he said, "Take the dog in there. That's what those dogs were bred for."

The woman realized that, indeed, they had the perfect little dog for the job. The woman picked up the little dog and carried him over to the water heater closet. The little dog became very frightened and thought that his mommy was going to put him in that little closet. The woman didn't want to scare the dog, so she did not force him to look for the mouse.

The woman's children went to the refrigerator and got some grated cheese to lure the sly litte mouse out of hiding, but, alas, he was nowhere to be found.

The woman went about her evening of putting the children to bed and cleaning the kitchen.
Later that evening, the woman and her husband were sitting in their bedroom and the woman again saw out of the corner of her eye the naughty little creature. She jumped up and told her husband that the mouse was there again. The mouse was under her dresser! The dog was prepared to capture the mouse. The woman had a container all ready to capture the mouse. The husband was standing as far back as he could offering moral support.

The mouse emerged from his hiding place behind the dresser only to see the giant woman and her little giant dog. He darted back under the dresser before the woman could capture him in her container. Back and forth he darted trying to escape, but there was no escape.

The woman told her husband that she was tired of sitting there waiting for it and that she was probably too skiddish to capture it by hand anyway. She expressed her desire for the vacuum cleaner so the little mouse could just be sucked out from under the dresser. Immediately, her husband ran to the back porch and grabbed the ShopVac. What a genious idea the woman had!

The husband and wife prepared themselves for the hunt. The husband plugged in the vacuum cleaner and the wife stood watch so the little creature couldn't escape. The husband asked the wife is she was ready.

"Yes," she replied.

On came the power suction of the vacuum. The woman passed it back and forth under the dresser when suddenly, there was a loud "THRUMP!"

The woman was confident that the little creature had been captured by the powerful suction of the ShopVac. She told her husband to look in the container to see if the mouse was in there. "You do it," he replied.

They decided that they either didn't catch it, it was dead, or he was stunned, simply because there was no noise of an escaping mouse coming from the depths of the vacuum cleaner.
Slowly, the woman opened the lid of the vacuum. she peered into the abyss and saw a sad sight.

The little mouse lay motionless at the bottom of the ShopVac. The woman solemnly rolled the vacuum to the front door and out to the dumpster. She dumped the contents of the container into the dumpster as quickly as she could, knowing the mouse could awaken at any time.

The mouse now lives a wonderful life in the dumpster. He loves all the rotton food and nooks and crannies there are to hide in.

Camping

Tomorrow is the day that we'll leave to go on our last camping trip of the summer. I'm ready for the coolness of autumn and dressing my kids up for Halloween. I AM NOT ready for the bitter cold winter. I wish it would just stay spring and fall all year round. I know I've said it before, but I can't believe how quickly the time goes by. Well, before I know it, I'll be telling you about our first camping trip of the summer next summer and telling you that I can't wait for the heat of the summer. That's just how it goes. We always want what we can't have. Okay, I'm sure there'll be lots of new pictures this weekend, so maybe I'll post those and you'll get to see them.

Have a great Labor Day and please BE SAFE!! Designate a driver! I will not be your friend anymore if I find out you drive drunk. I'm serious! Just don't do it!

Tiny Butterflies

I was at a friend's house today (Jayme) and saw the most amazing thing that I'd seen in awhile. There were these prickly sticker bushes and there were these tiny little butterflies just swarming them. No, they weren't moths or flies, they were cute little butterfles. And right next to these little sticker weeds were beautiful sunflowers. I got Jayci out of the car to look at the tiny butterflies and she just thought they were so cute. In fact, she was a little irritated with me becuase I couldn't catch one for her to look at.

So we got back into the car and drove away and I realized that those butterflies don't care how beautiful sunflowers are or how prickly that little sticker plant was. They love that sticker weed because it's what they need. It's beautiful to the butterflies.

Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder and none of us should judge anyone! Ever! That's just my two cents. I hope you all take the time to notice the tiny butterflies that may want to live on that sticker plant you're about to pull out! Notice the beautiful things in life that you may have taken for granted yesterday

Getting older, one day a year

Once a year, a day comes around that makes me feel old. It makes me feel like life is passing by too quickly. It makes me realize that I need to cherish every moment that I have with my kids. It has a way of changing my life, even if only for a day or two. There are two other days throughout the year that make me feel similarly, but not as much so as this one does.

By now, you may be wondering what day it is. What day is it that makes me have such strong feelings about life and how fleeting it is. No, it's not my birthday. It's not the anniversary of a loved one's death. It's not even an official holiday. It's the day I became a mother.

Motherhood is such an important job filled with responsibility and stress. It is also one that comes with new joys and pains that you will never experience until you are a mother. To have all of these overwhelming feelings all at once at the young age of 19 is indescribable. Only since I've had Jayci at a mature age (and on purpose) have I realized all of this. I knew it was important to be a mother and that it is beneficial to children to have their mother at home raising them, but I never came to the realization that it is so much deeper than that.

It means kissing owies and looking both ways before you cross the street. It means holding hands even when your hand is already sweaty and the hand you're holding is covered in sticky popsicle juice and dirt. It means giving up the last bit of dinner for a kid who's still hungry even though you are too. It means watching the Disney Channel every day, even though you'd rather be watching Days of Our Lives.

It means cleaning barf off of the floor because he didn't make it to the bathroom in time. It means looking through the barf to see what may have made him sick. It means staying up all night and keeping a cool cloth on a fevered child. It means listening to the horrid sound of tooth root ripping from the gums of a child who is screaming at the top of her lungs because she doesn't want the loose tooth to come out of her mouth quite yet.

It means laying your life on the line at a moment's notice. It means sacrificing whatever it takes to make sure your child's life is better than your own. It means giving up your dreams to make sure your child can pursue their own. There is no better sacrifice...or reward than being a mother (or a parent).

The day Halle was born, my life changed FOREVER. On the August 22, 1998 Halle was born in American Fork, UT. She weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces. She was born at 9:53 pm. She had black hair and was absolutely beautiful. I have never loved anyone so quickly or so easily. As she turns 9 this Wednesday, I always think about how quickly the time has gone by and how much my life has changed since then. I went from being an immature girl to being a woman (not quite mature, but I'm working on it). That tiny little baby meant that my life would never consist of winning a Grammy or being on Broadway. That tiny little baby meant that I would always love my life, no matter how bad it got.

Halle's birthday also makes me realize how old I am. It's not the number that I turn on my birthday, it's the number that she turns on her birthday. It's almost like it's my birthday because it's the day that my new, real life began.

Every sacrifice I've had to make has been worth it. Every stretchmark I got has been worth it. I would do anything for my kids. I would go to the ends of the Earth to make sure that they are happy. I would die for them. They are the only people that I can honestly say that about. I hope that I can be a good mother and always make sure my children know how much I love them and care for them.

Summertime Stress

Okay, I love my family and I love going to see them, but there has been far too much travel this summer. I just want to stay at home and sleep all day! Unfortunately, that's not possible, and I'm sure if I dug really deep, I would realize that I don't want to just stay at home and sleep, that I love being active with my kids and that it is well worth the price of gas to go and visit all of these wonderful places we get to go.

My next endeavor will be for my 10 year reunion (go Rattlers) and then Connie Mack World Series. I'm excited that we get to be a foster family for some players this year!! FUN! The kids are pumped about it too. Hopefully it will all go well and we'll have some great boys.

Maybe when the kids go back to school I'll breathe.

Anniversary

Today is mine and Chad's 7 year anniversary. I'm so happy and so proud of us for making it despite all of the challenges. It has been a great 7 years and I'm happy to say that I think we'll make it AT LEAST another 7. :)

Carpenter Ants (kind of a long story, but a good one)

Where to begin...

A couple of years ago we had this big, old, beautiful Cottonwood Tree. The only problem with it was that everytime the wind blew (and it's New Mexico, it blows a lot) the front yard would be covered with branches. Once, there was a branch so big that the kids could climb and play on it. Well, rather than risking a branch falling on our house, the neighbor's house, their car (as it had done before) or Heaven forbid on a person, and because the leaves from it were unmanagable, we decided to have it cut down. I'm beginning to think that this was a HUGE mistake.

We cut the tree down in March of 2005. That summer, the tree went into survival mode and sprouts from the roots were everywhere: our yard, the neighbors' yards; there were even sprouts across the street and in places you wouldn't believe that tree's roots could reach. So Chad and his dad put some stump killer on it and the sprouts went away.

So now to the subject: Carpenter ants.
We have had the GIGANTIC ants around the yard that are massive I'll make a line to show you how long they are ________. That's pretty long for an ant. I apologize if your computer screen is bigger than mine and it's actually bigger than the ants really are. Anyway, they're about 3/4 inch long. And they're black and scary. I caught one in the girls' bedroom and there just happened to be a water bottle lid in there and I was messing with the ant and it could grab on to and hold the lid!

So I looked it up on the internet and I found out that these boogers like to live in rotting tree stumps. So now, not only do I have an eyesore of a tree stump in my front yard that kids like to climb onto and jump off of, now it is a nest for gigantor ants! I should have kept the tree! Maybe my house wouldn't be so hot, but that's a different story altogether.

Finally

Well, I finally did it. I finally graudated. I am so happy and so relieved to be done. I can't believe I did it! The ceremony was a nice one. It was so nice to have my school friends there with me and all of my family was able to be here. I am so lucky to have such a great family, both in my own and in Chad's.

Chad and I have decided that I'm going to stay home with the kids a little longer and then I'll start teaching. I'm not ready yet anyway. It was too much stress trying to get the kids everywhere they needed to be on time. I really loved it, but I just want to be a mom for awhile. Not a mom and a student or a mom and a teacher. Just a mom. Thanks to those of you who sent your congratulations. I really appreciate it.
